Keith Wass established the business in 1972 when he was a college student looking for a summer job. He spotted a hot dog stand for sale and bought it, then went about differentiating his hot dogs from his competitors by developing a formula for cooking them in peanut oil on a griddle, along wiht onions, that renders a fragrant and delicious tasting hot dog. The "Wasses Special" is served with fried onions, mustard and relish.
