Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors Show - A summer celebration of land and sea in Rockland, Maine
Each summer in Rockland, the Maine Boats, Homes, and Harbors Show celebrates anything and everything about boats and the coastal lifestyle. The celebration takes place in Harbor Park and is sponsored by Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors Magazine.
The event is a mix of land and sea, and is the only in-water boat show in the state. Visitors can take in the sights of more than 70 boats in the water, and visit 150 exhibitors on the shore. This unique event brings together Maine’s finest artists, craftsmen, architects, boat builders, designers, marine gear vendors, furniture makers, and musicians to celebrate the Rockland culture.
Over the course of three days, people can access a model yacht pond, live entertainment, a children’s area, a marine activities area, historic films, daily hands-on demonstrations, great food, and gorgeous boats. The show also features the annual Zucchini Boat Regatta. Maine’s craziest and most creative boat builders venture into the world of “green” boatbuilding by using zucchinis. Yes, you read that correctly. Contestants build tiny boats out of zucchinis and then race them in the Model Pond.
For something else that is a little different, be sure to check out the World Championship Boatyard Dog Trials. Here, marina and boatyard dogs are invited to navigate an obstacle course, hop into dinghies, and dive into the water to retrieve lobster buoys. Judges and their scorecards rate the dogs; the more paws on the cards, the better.
If you are interested in an event that combines history, innovation, culture, education, and a little fun, this is the show to attend. Admission is $12 for the public and children under 12 are free. Two- and three-day passes are available.
